The Moon Township American Legion baseball season came to a end, as they lost to Houston, 6-5 in the last inning. Errors and missed opportunities plagued them in this ACP Loser's bracket game. Moon held a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh when the air got left out the sails. Moon had 14 hits.

In other ACP games from Sunday afternoon, in the winner's bracket games. Plum (ARL # 1, 25-1) defeated Lincoln Place, 10-2 to advance to the Region 6 tournament as the host team. Plum had already qualified before the tournament started because they are hosting the Region 6 tourney at CCAC Boyce Campus Field.

West Allegheny (ORL #1, 23-4) also advanced to the Region 6 tournament by crushing Elizabeth Forward, 10-1. West Allegheny will be the Allegheny No. 2 seed. In the loser's bracket games, Penn Hills edged Sewickley, 5-4, West Mifflin beat Springdale in eight innings, 8-7, and Houston came from behind to beat Moon Twp., 6-5. The Allegheny County Double Elimination tournament begins Wednesday with a full slate of games at four different sites in the area. Our boys start on Thursday night when they travel to Shaler's Matulevic Field to play Elizabeth Forward (12-9) in the opening round at 6:00 PM. A quick note regarding tonight's game, the Bethel Park/Shaler game in scheduled to resume this afternoon before our game is scheduled. That game was tied at 3-3 after 11 innings. So be prepared for a possible delay and traffic at the field site.

I just recieved an update from Bob Hester, Lincoln Place actually defeated Baldwin last night in 10 innings, the game was not suspended as first reported. Also, tonight's game with Elizabeth Forward has been postponed as well as the rest of the Allegheny County playoff scheduled for today (Thursday). They have all been rescheduled for Friday night.

In the AC Playoffs on Wednesday night, Plum, the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament, got past Robinson Twp., 3-1. The No.2 seed overall, West Allegheny, defeated West Mifflin, 7-4. Lincoln Place defeated Baldwin, 2-1 in 10 innings. The other opening night game ended in extra inning tie, Bethel Park and Shaler went 11 innings tied at 3-3 before darkness ended it. The game will be picked up at 4:30 PM Friday afternoon before the Friday night schedule. I will be in close contact with Region 6 Director Bob Hester during these games. As well as my own source, Moon Twp. ALB Manager Dom Santeufemio.

In Beaver County, from last night (Wednesday), Blackhawk took a 1-0 lead in the best of five Beaver County Championship series. Blackhawk got past Beaver Falls, 7-5. Game two of this series resumes today (Thurssday) at Beaver Falls at 5:30 PM.

West Allegheny defeated West View/Ross twice, 9-8 and 6-5, on Sunday to overtake Sewickley and win the Ohio River League title. No matter what happens in Monday night's rescheduled game with Robinson Twp, even if WA would lose, they would be tied with Sewickley. WA has the advantage in the tie-breaker having beaten Sewickley all three times they met.

Moon's game with Elliott on Thursday was postponed to Monday after the ever so brilliant school district decided to allow the contractors take core samples again and made the field unplayable. That coupled with the fact the lower field was unplayable because the grass was over a foot high on it.

On Saturday, Elliott called to forfeit Monday's game due to lack of players. Moon has now finished the regular season a 17-7 record and is probably going to be the third place team out of the Ohio River League barring a West Allegheny collapse. From what records and results I have, WA has four games left, awaiting the Elliott game results from Friday night. They still need to play West View/Ross twice and Robinson in order to complete their schedule.

Tuesday night, Allegheny County American Legion Baseball officials will hold the County Playoff pairing meeting. As soon as I have them I will post them on this and the County/Region 6 websites. Please look back here on no later than Wednesday early afternoon. Thank you for your patience in my updates, between health issues and vacation (and a wedding) I have been a bit lacodasical this summer.

Moon went on the road for a late night game on Wednesday at West View/Ross and came away with an 8-1 victory. Bryce Goldbach got the win, striking out 12 and walking only one. He also only allowed four hits in his complete game. Moon jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. WV/R scored their only run in the first on run scored from third on a double play. After the first inning, Goldbach was lights out. Zak Schmidt was 3-3 and Phil Bondi added two hits. Moon had 12 hits total. Berdine had a two run single.

Moon Township will host Elliott at 6:00 PM today in the last regular season and home game of the year. Moon will now advance ro the Allegheny County playoffs which begin next Wednesday at various sites around the county. Some of the usual sites are : Burkett's Marko Field in Robinson Township, Shaler's Matulevic Field, CCAC Boyce Campus Field and Peterswoods Park in Peters Township. Moon is currently in third place in the ORL. Congratulations to Dom and the boys for getting Moon back to the playoffs.

Old Allegheny forfeited a doubleheader that was scheduled for Thursday night to West Allegheny, Moon and Robinson have clinched the last two playoff spots in the Ohio River League.

Good day everyone !!! Moon bats went to work on Monday night in Elliot, scoring a 21-0 victory in 5 innings. Ben Smith pitched the complete game shutout. He struck out four and walked two, allowing only 4 hits.

Nick Berdine hit for the cycle going 4-4. Brett Hogle was 3-3 (2B, HR). Phil Bondi was 3-4 (2B, 3B, HR). Tom DeAngelis (3B) and Paul Pitaro (HR, 3 RBI's) added two hits each.

Dom just recieved news that Sto-Rox has officially folded their team and that tonight's game with them is now cancelled and we recieve a forfeit win. Sto-Rox cited on their website the reason for folding, lack of players willing to commit.

Moon Township is now 15-7 with two games to go. They travel to West View/Ross on Wednesday night at 8:30 PM. On Thursday, they complete the regular season at home against Elliot at 6:00 in a make up game because of last week's rainout. The Allegheny County playoffs begin next Wednesday. The County playoff pairings meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday. Moon is currently sitting in a playoff spot. We can guarantee ourselves a playoff spot by winning one of our last two games.

In other ORL action from Monday night, Robinson and Old Allegheny split a doubleheader. In the first game, OA beat Robinson, 7-4. In the nightcap, Robinson won, 12-6.

Last night's home game with Elliott got wiped out by the heavy rains that innuandated the area. At this posting, I had not heard when the game would be made up. Hope everyone is safe and dry today. I heard Aliquippa got nailed with five inches of rain. Dom said when I talked to him yesterday morning that it was raining so hard he couldn't see in more than a few feet in front of him.

The team returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Crafton's Meyer-Middleton Field for a 2:00 PM game. Wish I could be there as I am heading home again today to attend the wedding of my dear friends Jonas Rushman and Nelia Marchionda on Saturday.

I just want to commend the boys have been showing up every day to play. You guys have not given up and have fought back to be strong playoff contenders. I am proud of you and wish you all the best of luck throughout the rest of the regular season. Go Moon Township, get us back in the playoffs.

Sorry for the long delay on updating this page. Been busy and recovering from my bum leg. In the mean time though, the reserves of the Moon Legion baseball team have been carrying Manager Dom Santeufemio into playoff contention and first place in the Ohio River League.

Last Thursday, they beat West Allegheny, 2-1. On Saturday, Moon beat Old Allegheny, 13-8 in the opening game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Old Allegheny with only nine players, had one of their players injured and were forced to forfeit, 7-0 because you must have nine players on the field at all times.

On Sunday, Ben Smith pitched a complete game, throwing only 65 pitches, to beat first place Sewickley again, 2-1. On Monday, Moon and Elliott see-sawed the lead, but ended up prevailing, 12-6. On Tuesday, Moon out lasted Robinson Township, 15-14. Nick Grace got the win in this game in relief. Moon's offense pounded out 19 hits.

Moon returns to action on Thursday when they host Elliott at 6 PM. I will have more info on the big wins.

Back again in Philly after my "hit and run" trip to Moon for the Moon Baseball Banquet. The Moon Legion team hosted Sto-Rox on Thursday night at the Moon Area H.S. Field. With rain and storms looming the game was suspended. At press time, I had no information as to when it would br continued. Moon returns to action again tonight when they travel to Donaldson Field to meet West Allegheny for a make up game at 6:00 PM.

The boys had a tough Sunday as they dropped a doubleheader to rival West Allegheny, 8-7 and 6-2. In game one, Nick Grace was on the mound and had the lead after six innings. But reliever Phil Bondi in the seventh was greeted by some bad errors and an game-winning single by Zak Sinclair. In the night cap, both teams listlessly went throuh the motions, and when the game was over, WA had the win.

On Friday, Moon defeated Old Allegheny, 13-8. Pitcher Ben Smith got the win. Thursday's game with Sewickley was rained out and will be made up this next Sunday. Moon's next game is Thursday at home with Sto-Rox at 6:00 PM

Just a friendly reminder to the 2007 Moon Area High School Baseball team members, the 13th Annual Moon Area Pinch Hitter's Club (MAPHC) Moon Area H.S. Baseball Banquet will take place this coming Wednesday June 27th at the Pittsburgh Airport Crowne Plaza Hotel at 6:30 PM. The banquet is open to all current players and their parents. Players get in for free and there is minimal charge for parents and guests. God willing and the creek don't rise I will hopefully be there to see you all.

Hello, sorry I'm on vacation in the mountains of West Virginia. Moon beat Robinson Twp. on Saturday morning, 13-0. Apparently the boys love playing at Burkett. Nick Grace got the win in the 5 inning contest.

Zak Schmidt and Nick Berdine advanced to the next round of the American Legion All-Star workouts.

Moon ended up splitting their weekend games. On Saturday, Moon traveled to North Hills H.S. to play West View-Ross. The end rsult was a 7-3 loss. Nick Grace pitched and took the loss. Matt Schmidt and Nick Berdine each had two hits. Berdine and Phil Bondi doubled.

On Sunday, Moon travelled to S-K-R's Ewing Field to play Sto-Rox and came away with a 12-6 victory. Bryce Goldbach pitched four innings in relief to get the win. Nick Grace hit a three run home run. Ryan Suess had three hits. Phil Bondi, Nick Berdine, and Casey Williams each added two hits.

On Wednesday, some of the boys will travel to Marko Field at the Burkett Complex to participate in the American Legion Ohio River League All-Star Workout and game. Moon Twp. representatives were Zak Schmidt, Ryan Suess, Phil Bondi, Nick Berdine, and Nick Grace.

Moon travels to Marko Field TODAY at the Burkett Complex to face Robinson Twp. at 8 PM.

The Moon/Elliott game tonight was postponed to a later date. Apparently, Elliott has several Bishop Canevin players on it's roster. In other ORL action from Wednesday night, West Allegheny (1-0) started their Legion season with an 11-0 win over Sto-Rox in five innings. Ryan Huebner pitched a no hitter and got the win. Also, Robinson Twp. beat C.I.T., 13-3 and Sewickley ran over West View-Ross, 16-0.

Moon literally dropped the baseball and the game to Robinson Township on Tuesday night at Moon Area Middle School Field, 10-6. Moon commited nine errors in the infield. Ben Smith pitched a great game, but didn't much support in the defense department. He allowed only six hits. At the end of one inning, Moon actually held a 4-1 lead.

Offensively, Moon had nine hits, including two hits each from, Nick Berdine (2B), Ryan Butschle, and Ryan Suess. Phil Bondi added a double. Moon returns to action on Thursday night when they host, Elliott. Elliott is just starting their season because they had to await Langley's departure from the PIAA playoffs. Blackhawk beat Langley, 16-6 on Monday.

On Sunday morning, our Moon Legion team hosted first place and previously unbeaten Sewickley and came away a 6-5 winner. Zach Mangan got the big win, going six innings before yielding to reliever Phil Bondi. Offensively, Moon had eleven hits, including two hits from Marco Colalillo, Nick Berdine, Paul Pitaro (double), and Bondi (triple). Zak Schmidt also doubled.

Moon had fell behind early 3-0. But started to rally in the third inning when they scored a pair. However, Sewickley brought in their ace, Frederick and he struck out the side to end Moon's rally. However, Moon then jumped all over Frederick in the fourth to take 6-3 lead. In the seventh, a lead off single by Sewickley's no. 9 man, followed by a two run homer chased Mangan. Bondi would then get the final three outs.

Moon is now 4-2, and they will host Robinson Twp. this evening.

The Moon Twp. Legion team trailing 8-0 in the fifth inning, scored four runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to come from behind to beat West View/Ross, 10-8 last night at home. Nick Grace started for Moon, but he became the victim of some fielding errors which eventually chased him out of the game. Phil Bondi, in relief, got the win working the last two innings scoreless.

It was also Phil Bondi that sparked Moon's big offensive come back. He had bases loaded and clearing double. Paul Pitaro also drove in some runs that inning. It was Ryan Orlovsky's two-run single in the sixth inning that provided Moon with the go-ahead, then eventually, winning runs.

Moon Twp. (3-2, 6 points) is now currently tied for second in the Ohio River League (ORL)with Sto-Rox. Sewickley is still in first place with a 5-0 record. Sewickley travels to Moon on Sunday at 12 NOON to play our next game.

The Moon Twp. ALB team went on the road on Wednesday night to play first place Sewickley. Moon dropped a tough close game, 6-4. Ben Smith started for Moon and pitched four great innings before fading in the fifth. Tommy DeAngelis hit a three run home run in the first inning to give Moon the early lead. Ryan Butschle had a couple of hits.

Moon hosts West View-Ross tonight at 6:00 PM. Come on out to the ball park to see the boys in action.

The Moon Legion (2-1) team won a doubleheader on Saturday. They beat Crafton-Ingram-Thornburg, 12-2 and 7-6. Nick Grace pitched the first game and got the complete game win. The game ended after five innings. In the nightcap, Nick Berdine got the nod to start. However, it would be Brett Hogle, in relief, to get the win. Hogle worked the last two innings.

Ryan Butschle drove in four runs in the first game and Phil Bondi homered. In the second game, Bondi tripled and doubled. Moon won the game on a double steal.

The team did recieve some bad news though, due to the managerial mess and a changed legion rule. Moon was forced to forfeit last Thursday's scheduled game with Sto-Rox. Apparently, the previous rule gave a team 72 hours to get their house in order after the H.S. team finishes it's season. However, it was changed to 48 hours sometime in the past seven years. Thus the team sufferd their first loss. It is a shame that they were forced to forfeit. Even worse that a team would take a forfeit win considering the reasons that existed. Oh well, you live and learn. BTW, don't blame Sto-Rox, they were at the field when they found out.

The team returns to action tonight when they play first place Sewickley at Hawthorne Field at 6:00 PM.

Hello and welcome back everyone !!! I almost was ready to mothball this site, when lo and behold they pulled me back into it. It has been a crazy off-season in Moon Legion baseball history. First, 2006 Manager Frank Sorosky had decided to retire after one year of being the man in charge. Frank had been with the program as an assistant the previous year and scorekeeper in 2004. I would at this time like to thank Frank for all he has done for me and the Moon Legion program. He kept me updated over the past three seasons and made sure I had the information to keep the site up and running.

Now, for the crazy part !!! In the recent months leading up to yesterday (May 22nd). The Moon Township Baseball Association fell into a bind. They searched high and low to find someone you would take the program. They asked quite a few people I was told, and found no takers. Enter, Dave Kiriloff. Personally, I do not know this gentleman, but apparently he runs a Baseball school/training facility in Robinson Township. Well, they were able to secure his services for a fee. Up until yesterday morning, Mr. Kiriloff was all set to take Moon Twp in the new season. But ...... for some unknown reason, yet to be disclosed ..... he up and resigned as manager. I won't comment on that move yet until I get some facts.

So now, less than 24 hours after the Moon Area High School Baseball team was eliminated from the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs. The Legion team is again without a Manager. The phones started ringing in Moon. After some intense talks, particularly with his wife, Donna, Dom Santeufemio came out of retirement from the program to take the team.

I was on the phone with him on Tuesday morning and hopefully I will have more information pertaining to his return to the program. Also he promised to send me a schedule and roster. Currently, he has no staff, except for me out here in Philly. The team was scheduled to play on Tuesday and Thursday but because of their participation in the WPIAL playoffs they were able to postpone Tuesday's game. I awaiting word if they will play Sto-Rox on Thursday night at home. They do have 72 hours (three days) after the high school team is eliminated to turn in the their final roster and begin play under PA. American legion rules.

Dom returns to this team after retiring along with me and then manager, Tom Hoffman at the end of the 2000 season. I have been told that some of the returning players to the Moon Legion team, include Casey Williams and Ben Smith. The team did have a completed 18 player roster from what I was told. Again, as the information becomes available I will update the site

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Ohio River League news, I only know of a few games played so far. I read in the Beaver County Times that Sewickley has been beating up the league. They throttled C-I-T last Saturday, 15-0. Then rolled Sto-Rox on Sunday, 13-1. I have no other details on that. Also, I was told by Glenn Vietmeier that he is no longer managing the Robinson legion baseball team. Glenn said he is taking some time off to see his own children play. Good luck to Glenn on that !!!
